What is the difference between a Dietitian and a Nutritionist?
Do you offer detox diets?
No! As part of our university studies to become a dietitian, we learn that the human body is well equipped with amazing organs and enzymes to filter and breakdown dietary toxins. So this means there is no medical evidence for the idea of “detoxing” ourselves. The best way to look after your body for the long term is to strive towards having a healthy, balanced diet most of the time.
Do you need a referral?
It is not essential to have a Doctor’s referral, however is it common for your Doctor to provide one for you if they would like to be involved in your progress. It is essential to have a referral form if you have been referred as part of a Medicare chronic disease management plan (CDMP) plan arrangement, previously known as an “Enhanced Primary Care plan” or EPC.
Can you claim a rebate with private health funds?
Yes, if you are a member of a private health fund you may be eligible to claim a rebate for your consultation. Please contact your health fund to find out the details of your particular policy.
What about Medicare rebates?
Medicare rebates may be available through specific CDMP arrangements with your general practitioner. There is a specific form you will be given that will have Medicare items 721 & 723 listed on it. Please discuss this with your general practitioner to see if you are eligible for this type of referral. The rebate from Medicare covers a part of the consultation fee.
